Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Skills, BVM&S GEP Year Director
The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, The University of Edinburgh
Caroline grew up in Cumbria and spent her childhood riding and competing ponies, including representing England. When the time came to decide on a career it was always going to be with animals and she qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 1998 while working in a mixed practice. She then spent a year travelling and working in Australia (as a RVN and Show Jumper) before returning to the UK to take up an employed role as a falconer in a conservation centre where she had previously spent many years volunteering.
Caroline moved to Edinburgh in 2002 to join the team at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, before having a break from nursing to try her hand at pharmaceutical territory management, obtaining her Diploma in Management in 2006. After a few years, she returned to the R(D)SVS to become the Veterinary Nursing Tutor, a role that has evolved into the Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Skills. Caroline leads on Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCES) for various years of the undergraduate degree and manages the Clinical Skills teaching spaces. She was instrumental in developing a self-directed learning space for clinical skills practice.
Caroline obtained her Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2015 and then became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2019.
In her spare time, she competes her horses at horse trails, having been fortunate to compete up to 2* international level, and she loves spending time with her two Labradors who are also a key part of the teaching team.
